Is a reform in the banking and monetary system overdue to ensure financial stability and sustainable development?

Jonas Fonnesbæk Lodahl in conversation with Thomas Røkås, followed by Q&A from audience.

Given the ongoing instabilities in the banking sector, where strategically important banks around the world are either faltering or collapsing, we ask whether the current systems of money production, investment, lending, and speculation are compatible with the sustainable and just future envisioned by world leaders. Is the current financial system actually necessary to facilitate green transitions, or does it rather exacerbate inequality and unsustainability across nations? If so, are there alternative tactics that are better equipped to ensure financial stability and sustainable development?

To dig into our questions, Rethinking Economics Norge invite Jonas Fonnesbæk Lodahl from Gode Penge. Jonas is a FinTech professional who is involved in developing new financial products and instruments, and a board member of the organization Gode Penge, which aims to educate people about the banking and monetary systems. Additionally, he is a co-founder of Økonomiskolen, a platform that seeks to democratize economics and engage non-economists in socio-economic issues. Jonas holds a degree in Philosophy from the University of Copenhagen.

Thomas Røkås is an active member of Rethinking Economics Norway, and holds a masters degree from NMBU in International Environmental and Development Studies.
